Intent

At Stourfield Infant School, our PRE curriculum inspires curiosity and nurtures empathy, helping children explore big ideas like kindness, belonging, and fairness. We aim to develop well-rounded, compassionate learners who value diversity and understand a broad range of religious and non-religious worldviews. By connecting learning to real-life experiences, we equip our pupils with the foundations of empathy, inclusion, and cultural understanding—preparing them to be thoughtful, informed citizens and future leaders in an increasingly diverse world.

Our PRE-Curriculum Aims to:

Inspire learners to explore diverse religions and worldviews with curiosity and enthusiasm.

Provide knowledge and understanding of a wide range of beliefs, including their own.

Encourage personal reflection on values, beliefs, and life purpose with tolerance and respect.

Develop religious literacy through thoughtful dialogue, deep questioning, and informed understanding.

Foster empathy and confident expression of diverse perspectives.

Support students in becoming responsible, respectful citizens who live safe and fulfilling lives.

Empower pupils to ask meaningful moral, ethical, and philosophical questions and critically evaluate different beliefs.

Enhance understanding of how beliefs shape practices and life choices across cultures and communities.

How Do We Achieve This?

We ensure our vision for PRE is brought to life through:

· Engaging children with a wide range of religious and non-religious stories, symbols, festivals, and traditions.

· Using drama, music, art, and role-play to make beliefs and values come alive in age-appropriate ways.

· Encouraging pupils to express their ideas, reflect on experiences, and develop empathy and understanding of difference.

· Exploring themes such as friendship, helping others, family, and celebration from both faith-based and universal perspectives.

· Introducing key concepts from theology, philosophy, and ethics in simple and relatable ways, including fairness, kindness, truth, and belonging.

· Connecting classroom learning with the wider world through visits to local places of worship and nature walks.

· Welcoming visiting speakers from diverse worldviews to share their stories and experiences.

· Enriching learning with cross-curricular activities and links with older students across the Trust who inspire younger pupils.
