Science
Intent
At Stourfield Infant School, we understand the importance that science holds for our future and we know that it provides the foundations for understanding the world.
Our science curriculum aims to spark children’s curiosity about the world around them, encourage them to ask the ‘big’ questions and think critically about how best to find the answers.
Children at SIS gain an understanding of how to respect and care for their bodies, as well as our environment and the living things within it.
We want children to engage in this exciting subject and foster a mind that always asks ‘why’.
At SIS we strive to achieve this by:
· Providing an exciting and progressive science curriculum, which begins in EYFS and continues up to secondary school.
· Using a topic based approach, which ensures children meet the National Curriculum learning objectives.
· Providing as many hands on, practical experiences as possible.
· Teaching subject knowledge as well as scientific enquiry skills.

They begin making observations and drawing pictures of animals and plants. They start to learn about the seasons, different types of materials and how they might change.
Year One

Year Two
