Year One and Two Phonics and Spelling Parents Workshop

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Year One and Year Two Phonics and Spelling Parents Workshop.

The workshop shared the raised expectations for Reading and Writing in Key Stage 1, focussing on how phonics and the spelling of ‘High Frequency and Common Exception’ words are taught at Stourfield Infant School.

Parents were shown a typical Super Sounds Lesson and were shown websites to help their children with reading words and non-words, in preparation for the Year One Phonics Screening in May and  Parents were also given ideas for learning spellings at home.

The feedback included the following quotes:-

‘Really informative. Useful to know how the children learn and how to support them at home’.

‘Another fabulous workshop. Always so handy to be prepared and informed for what’s due to happen’.

‘Good to see the expectations from the National Curriculum’.

‘Really useful to see how the next couple of years will look’.

‘The fun ways to learn spellings will go down well. Doing things in a creative way is very encouraging’.

‘I found the opportunity to ask questions, good’.
